The act of being abused can lead to a child dissociating in order to deal with the horrible things that are happening to them, this can lead to a pattern where the subject feels as though they are living in an unreal world - or they can develop a memory blank for those earlier years - others may suffer from painful reminders every time they smell a particular aroma, are in a certain situation or hear or see something that triggers the memory of long ago.
It is important to talk to someone about how you feel - and also to accept that you were not to blame in any way.
Child abusers have often been abused themselves and this can lead to a vicious cycle, that is why it is important to break that cycle right now.
