Obsessive Compulsive Disorder can be very difficult for
non-sufferers to understand. This script was written by a 14 year old
girl who has been through this condition and found a way of coping with it.
Begin with your favorite induction and a staircase deepener from Hypnotic World.
And as you reach the bottom step you find yourself in a
room, and facing you are three doors. Each door is a different color,
each door is closed. Notice what the doors are made of - the size of
the doors - the handles - the color of each one.
You walk closer to the first door and push it open
carefully - the door is difficult to push and gradually you realize why.
An enormous balloon is filling the whole room so that there is very little
room for you inside. As you try to enter the room you feel just the
way you feel when someone tries to stand in your way. You are pushing
against a force and can feel the aggression inside you beginning to build
up.
You feel squashed inside the room - the balloon is pushing
up against you, so you decide to go outside. It's easier out here, but
there are still two more doors to explore, so you walk over to the middle
door and push it open.
The second door opens and there is another balloon in here
- so tiny and all alone in this vast room. It reminds you of all the
loneliness you felt from OCD - the feeling small and thinking no-one cares
or really wants to know. You can see and feel these things before you
leave this room.
(Pause). The third door now begins to open for you
and as you enter the room beyond, you realize that the balloon doesn't fill
the room - the balloon IS the room. And the door is the opening of the
balloon. You enter the balloon and as you do, you see the nicest
colors in here, you feel the loveliest of feelings - safe and calm - and a
really nice fragrance all around you. There is a certain sound - or
perhaps no sound at, but it's nice and makes you feel good and you know that
everything will be alright.
Everything that you don't want is left behind. If
you like, you can tie the balloon by closing the door - realizing now that
your OCD doesn't need feeding - but your happiness does.
