Fear of swallowing - Child

I have a ten year old girl coming to see me with a fear of swallowing food, its started over the last few months, neither she or her mum can identify any particular event that may have caused it and she says that sometimes when she is distracted (like eating with a friend she hasnt seen for a while) it doesnt bother her as much. Shes had lots of medical examinations to determine whether it is a physical problem and all results come back normal so she is aware that it is in her mind and she wants to do something about it as she is always the last person in the canteen at lunchtime and this makes her feel self conscious. Does anyone know of a script or some ideas for a script that might help her? Thanks

Hi RhiG, I have observed someone treating an adult for a fear of swallowing and the therapist used EFT. Not sure if you are EFT qualified but it worked on a lady who could not be around people that were eating and drinking because when she saw them swallow it made her feel sick. The therapist used sub- modalities where they asked the patient where the feeling was in their body, what colour was it, what texture, size etc. and they had the client tap on the meridian points to reduce the level of anxiety associated with the thought of the swallowing. They had the client talk through the impact the thought of swallowing had on their body and asked them to describe their thoughts and feelings associated with this then tapped to reduce this further. If not EFT trained I have found a possible solution that you may be able to tweak to suit your client in the handbook of hypnotic suggestions and metaphors by D Corydon Hammond (Ph.D. However it is not associated with food just the process of swallowing. I shall be pleased to type this up and email it to you if you havent found an alternative solution yet? Hope this helps in some way and good luck with it.
