I have worked with several clients for weight loss & now one of my clients would like me to work with her daughter. The little girl is overweight & possibly could be counted as obese, but she is 6. Ive never done hypnosis on a child before & cant think how to word a script since at age 6, she clearly has another 10-12 yrs of growing to do. Anyone got any suggestions or ideas?? Im really stumped on this one.

Hi Linda, There are many scripts out there for children though give or take a little they are really just for the comfort of the practitioner as children, especially small children are already highly suggestible. My thoughts here are why the parent wants a therapist to deal with the issue of their overweight child. I guess that this child is not able to make their own meals or buy non healthy foods from the shops without their parents knowledge. I have a feeling that this is a case of the parent wanting to pass the responsibility of their childs weight problem over to another person (even if sadly that is the child). For myself I would work with the parent about what is happening for their child. I am sorry that this may not be the solution that you were looking for.

Let me begin by saying I am a family nurse practitioner/hypnotist. From a hypnosis standpoint, I cant help. From a "nonhypnosis" standpoint, pediatric obesity is a family issue. The whole family needs to be involved in the process of change. I applaud the mothers desire to utilize hypnosis, however I agree with Chris, as far as the parent possibly wanting to pass responsibility. A positive environment filled with plenty of healthy food choices and fun activity may help. Dave Caulfield Washington state, USA
