Hi! I suffer from a haetal hernia, so I do know something about the disease. It very often goes hand in hand with Gerds (gastro esophageal reflux disease). GERDS is caused by too much acid in the stomach. The hernia results when the diaphragm tears and part of the stomach patrudes through that tear and forms a pocket...many times food and acid will get stuck in this pocket. The healing script would be good, but maybe you can add something about acid reduction, diet, and stress reduction because that does play into this disease...I hope this helped! Let me know how you make out!!

I am a pharmacist as well as a hypnotherapist. The hernia may be caused by a weakness of the diaphragm not necessarily a tear. Some suggestions to reduce symptoms include anything that reduces pressure upwards on the stomach area, for instance raise the end of the bed slightly. Use thinner pillows. If overweight lose weight. Eat smaller portions of food. Ideally divide the food you eat into five or more smaller meals over the day (this can also help with weight loss). Keep a food and symptom diary. You should be able to identify which foods increase your symptoms. The most likely culprits are acidic foods like citrus fruits and fruit juices, salad dressings that include vinegar etc Coffee, alcohol and sometimes spicy foods.

I have one also, also aggravated by a broken xyphoid process. You can apply warm compresses, also lay on side for about an hour after eating, this relaxes the muscle spasms. There is a doctors site that recommends gently massaging the stomach downward also. If you have a food event and cant digest anything, eat watermelons, shrimp lean cuisine types of meals, reduce fat to less than 10g per day until digestion recovers. This can happen if the hernia closes off completely and the food in the upper stomach will not go down, it putrifies and you throw it up. Sometimes it will be a day or two before you can hold down a few sips of water. This is a natural reaction of the body when food will not pass through the herniated, swollen stomach. You have to eat easy to digest liquids, soups, bananas, the watermelons as mentioned, yogurt also, and take biotics or enzymes to re-establish digestionm and this can take several weeks. These are frequently misdiagnosed. So do not lift anything, do stretching exercises, or sit or stand too long without laying down comfortable and completely relaxing the diaphram, stomach muscles with progressive, relaxing breathing techniques. Anytime you feel a cramp beginning, you have to stop and relax it or it can become a realproblem.
