Has anyone worked with a client who has Tourettes Syndrome? I would be interested to hear your experiences. My client has had this since he was a child. He has a very mild facial tic. <p>Thank you, <p>Robin Roberts <p>

Hi Robin my son has tourettes syndrome which can at times be very difficult for him to control, as his mum its hard to offer him much professional help but i do a lot of relaxation techniques with him which i ve found to be incredably beneficial , i count him into relaxation with deep breathing then suggest he can take control of his ticks, it seems quite effective. hope this helps thanks cherry

Similar to stuttering, you may want to see if it is beneficial to create a metaphor of a flexible tube that carries the thought through to speach and to use a finger pinch to narrow this tube. With practice youll be able to pinch it shut and possibly detect when its starting to open up again. (I use similar techniques in my S-Bridge work) Also watch for patterning in Tourrettes. The Patterning is often mis-diagnosed as OCD - while in reality its a coping mechanism for people who feel the need to concentrate on other things (such as outbursts). Creating a relax anchor (breath, thought bridge, etc.) as a response to detecting their own patterning may be a good pre-emptive technique to reduce symptoms. Good luck! Anthony Santen, CH
