Whatever you do dont give up on yourself. Perhaps you should try some different types of scripts that take more time putting the client in a more relaxed state. I would suggest using a deepening script. I know they can be extensive, but that maybe what the client needs. Hope this helps.

We all have to start somewhere....it takes time. I think building up a good rapport during the consultation is all important-by for example, mimicking body movement, tone of voice etc. This helps clients to build up trust in you. Trust is essential to a client being able to enter trance state. Also, try playing around with your voice during the actual inductions- lower your pitch, slow down your speech, put emphasis on certain words. At first, start with inductions that really appeal to you so that you practice from the heart... hope this helps

A good pre-talk is essential, people can often have strange misconceptions about Hypnosis. (movies, internet, tv etc), your tutor/school should have covered this most basic need for a proper 'pretalk'.

I am also quite new to the proffession and I understand that this can be a bit disheartening but I would definitely say that some clients really do not actually realise that they have been induced into a trance as they are expecting some sort of magical change to happen which as we all know it doesn't! One of the reasons I trained in hypnotherapy was because my mum had some really effective hypnotherapy to help her with extremly high and often irrational levels of anxiety relating to various issues past and present. The difference that the sessions made to her was remarkable and really changed my opinion on hypnotherapy yet still to this day she insists that she was never under!!! Whilst it is probably a bit annoying for her hypnotherapist, I find this quite reassuring as I saw first hand how effective the treatment was despite the fact that she is adament she was not hypnotised. Also it's unfortunately a fact of life that some clients are just stubborn and downright unappreciative (not my mum by the way, she was appreciative despite thinking she wasn't in a trance!) but the proof is in the pudding and if you resolve the issue they came to you with, whether they felt they were hypnotised or not, they should think of it as money well spent. Once you have a few clients who tell you how deep they were in a trance and how much you've helped them any concerns you have will dissappear anyway :)

thanks for that. Indeed there was a change, the first one had an interview and thought he wouldn't get the position due to nerves...he got the job, the second came for weight loss and he was adamant nothing happened....he has lost 2 stone!! So I can't have done much wrong...

Hello Amanda, If your clients' perception of time was affected, then this is one of the signs of having been in some level of trance. Try a longer session with them using a deepener - don't get disheartened!

I'd encourage you to view these clients' responses as powerful feedback, which you can use to strengthen your pretalk. Try not to see it as a negative reflection on you, but rather, as significant data to help direct you toward a more desired outcome. In this way, it becomes empowering, rather than discouraging. After having applied this feedback to the tweaking of your pretalk, can you imagine how much more confidence you will have with your next client!?!
