Gastric band hypno not working for her

I have given the gastric band hypno sessions to many clients, some do better than others but they have all lost weight apart from one. I gave her the sessions, she said it worked for 3 days then she was eating as normal again. I gave her a tightener, didnt work, i tried other options but nothing is happening, i am at a loss of what to do now.

It really is down to the individual client. Did you ask her if she is implementing all of the cognitive behavioural treatment you taught her? Not everyone needs the band, she may need alternative weight loss scripting, maybe the fork in the road? or as I like to personally call it The Brick Wall script. Or you could do Parts Therapy. Keep up the good work and concentrate on the positive results you are getting overall. Regards Sean

I would definitely use parts and get the part that is sabotaging her into her hands so she can ask it why and then get it to change its behaviour.

I am up to the third session of Gastric Band hypnotherapy with a sceptical client. First week he didnt do the food diary so I would not start the therapy until he completed the diary for the past week. Second script was a bit firmer and I added some very positive PREM as the Luscher cards rejection of body and self esteem is low. Follow up call this morning and client is on track and had done all of his homework. I plan to add another session prior to the actual gastric band session to build the self esteem and positive PREM een more. Hope this helps.

It sounds like your client managed on will power for three days, before simply giving up. So the question might be, did she reject your suggestion or, was she in a hypnotic state when you made it. You dont say much about your client, how much over her ideal weight is she? How long has she had a problem with her weight? Has she ever had an eating disorder. Did your client request gastric band therapy or did you think it was the right thing to do? I believe that there is a growing tendency to jump on the gastric therapy bandwagon simply because it might be profitable, or that the client requests it. Bearing in mind that the surgical equivalent is reserved for people with a BMI of 40 plus, would we be using a sledgehammer to crack a nut to apply the hypnotic equivalent to someone who is maybe 3 or 4 stone overweight. So, for example, if you have a client who was sexually abused as a child and developed an eating disorder as a result of that, would they be likely to benefit from gastric band therapy? I dont think so. So I would suggest that you should do some information gathering, if you havent already, both consciously and unconsciously and decide what to do based on what you discover. Not every problem can be resolved by suggestion alone you may discover some deep rooted problem that requires a different approach.

I have asked all the relevent questions, i didnt suggest gastric band, she did, i have turned down a lot of clients wanting a gastric band as they think it is a miracle cure! I always give a long consultation before i do any form of hypnotherapy. I would never just give hypnotherapy to anyone without prior consultation, i am a professional afterall.

I have known this client for many years, she is not a friend, but i have known her since she was a child. As a child she was a bully, she admits that, she is still the sort of person you dont want to mess with. As far as i know, she doesnt have any problems, we discussed her childhood, her teens and even her family history. I do know all of the family. When i initially gave her the sessions, she did want to lose and was doing so, however, i felt that she was almost trying to test it. I told her not to go out and drink alcohol or fizzy pop, but she did do. She was very angry when she said that the treatment didnt happen. So maybe she is just trying to prove it doesnt work, but if that is the reason, why did she pay me to do it, she is struggling for money as it is.

I always think that its better to instruct someone to do something rather than not do something. ie from today you will begin to enjoy the the taste of fresh clear water and it will satisfy your thirst in every way, as opposed to dont this or that. Its a bit like dont think of a blue elephant, Im sure youve heard that analogy. Have you ever done age regression? I cant help thinking that she has early childhood issues, given what you said. Was she overweight as a child? Dave

yes dave she was, she was always a chubby person, her parents parted when she was young and she did say that she was an angry child due to this, she also said that she had dealt with these issues - maybe she hasnt. I did think about doing regression with her, not sure if she will want to drag the past up, but its worth a try. I did this with another client many years ago, found out she was abused as a child and when we had ironed out her problems she lost weight. this client however, she is a very stubborn person, she has a soft side, but its not often on show.

From reading the thread here... one thing I thought of: If she was a chubby child" and overweight through her life. Even though she says she wants to lose weight, a deeper level might be thinking "nothing will really work because ive been this way all my life" and maybe just to prove that deeper part right, the part sabatages. Or..... a deeper level (part) might be afraid to be less heavy because of protection or because it will have to change its view of self. I tell the story in my weight class when discussing 2ndary gain/positive intentions for being overweight: friend of mine was alway overweight and lost quite a bit in her 40s and got whistled at and hollared at ("ooh hey baby, your hot"). After years of therapy she discovered it was that point in time she started putting weight back on. She never had that kind of attention and didnt know how to deal with it....so her subconscious took her back to the most comfortable time....being overweight. Perhaps your client may have either of these issues.....

Parts therapy is were you call forward the part of someones personality that is causing an issue. You can also call her higher self, the part of your client that wants the best for her. You can talk to her logical part,the part of her that knows that being overweight will eventually disable or kill her. You set up a conversation between the Parts" have the various parts engage with the part of her that sabotages her regime. That is"Parts" in a coffee-time lecture. Its basically a method of talking to the various aspects of the clients personality To really get to grips with parts therapy check out The Art of Hypnotherapy by Roy Hunter, He developed parts therapy and it is a really good read for Hypnotists/Hypnotherapists. Hope this helps.

yes, there is a lot of deep seated traumas in this womans life. She blames her father for leaving her when she was 8, she blames her mother for not giving her as much attention as she did her sisters because she reminded her of her father, she blamed ........ yes, she blamed everyone for her behaviour as a child but not herself. Her daughter is taking the same path, she is 5 and is overweight already however, my client says she is perfect. Her daughter is selfish, greedy and to be honest turning into her mum!

Ive been considering gastric band for a client. She is a good 7 stone overweight. Was chubby all her life. Had a violent father and a sickly sister. We have been working on her past issues with her father which she mow says are all resolved. Her confidence and self worth has trebled and she says she feels better than she ever has done in life. However, she asked to try weight loss again ( we reverted back to healing past issues with her father through regression and worked on confidence as weight loss was going nowhere previously.). Now we have tried weight loss again. She reported being hundred per cent up for it. Was all enthused. I left her a cd to listen to of the session as back up. When I saw her yesterday she said oh I havent stopped eating Im worse than ever! i know what Im doing but I cant stop myself". She hadnt bothered to listen to the cd either. Im at a loss! I thought maybe gastric band may be the answer. Shes a very stubborn and was a very closed up person. However she is now softer and more open as her confidence has grown. We have tried parts therapy. We got nowhere! Help!!....

Maria, If you help the Mother youll help the child at the same time, this is simply learned behaviour. You say that she blames everyone but herself but I suspect she does blame herself and she will be her harshest critic. Have you heard of forgiveness therapy? They say that forgiveness is the eraser of guilt and fear. The important thing is this, the forgiveness of others is not for their benefit - but for hers. Forgiveness of herself is important too, because she may well feel guilty about her contribution to whatever has happened in her past, rightly or wrongly. I dont see how you can help her overcome her problems without regressing her to the cause. Having established the cause you can decide what to do next.

Lorraine, The same may well apply to your client, who clearly has self esteem issues. I wonder if you havent gone back far enough into her past. You cant rely on her judgement that all issues are resolved, she doesnt know whats wrong. Her subconscious mind may even be with-holding stuff from her conscious awareness, you need to look for it. When you regress her to cause, ask her: was that like, something new or was it more like - oh no, here we go again. Then, regardless of the answer, ask her to go back to an earlier time. You have to get back to the initial event before you can decide what to do next.

yes Dave i agree, the problem with this client is that she says that she has resolved all of her past problems and will not agree to have regression. She really is a difficult client, she came in to see me today, as i was not there (due to it being my 40th birthday and out for the day ) she was very angry and gave my receptionist a hard time. She didnt have an appointment but still thought i should be available for her. This is the sort of person she is. I am not sure there is much more i can do for her to be honest.
