Hello everyone, I will see a subject this week who describes his problem like this : he says he is hyperactive, he talks loudly and much, he is noisy, doing the clown quite often. Sometimes he does not control his mood and he will get frustrated quickly, he is impulsive. He wants to be more peaceful inside, to move slowler, to be calmer and less impulsive. I am not sure what type of script I should use... I saw nothing for impulsivity...and just relaxation would not be enought... Any idea? Thank you!

Hi Valerie Has your client had a medical diagnosis? His symptoms could belong to any one of a myriad of issues, however perhaps the Adult ADHD could help. You will probably need to adapt it to suit though and this doesnt imply that he has this condition, just some of the symptoms are similar.

Those set of symptoms could also indicate bi-polar otherwise known as manic depression. Sometimes characterised by highs and alternating with lows although sometimes just the highs. Is there a pattern to the symptoms i.e phases when these symptoms are not occuring? Can also be a learned behavioural response to stressful environments/events as a coping mechanism to control their anxiety. Hope this helps.

In addition to the above possibilities of ADHD and Bipolar Id be interested to know what hes frightened of. Cartesian logic could reveal some interesting things here.. What would happen if you were more peaceful inside, calmer & moved more slowly? what would happen if you were not more peaceful.. etc what wouldnt happen if you were more... what wouldnt happen if you were not more.. You could teach him self hypnosis to practice for a few minutes each day

Hi there, If it were me, I would delve a little deeper into this obvious unrest that he has. I would like to know how long he has been this way - if it is something he has has always been this way it would indicate ADHD or something similar. If he hasnt had it all of his life, it is likely that a significant emotional event happened that he is still reacting to. That then would be the issue to resolve. If you know how to do a values elicitation that could also be worthwhile doing to see what transpires. Good luck :-)

Barring the possibility of Aspbergers Syndrome, the behaviors you recite surely had, at inception, a positive intent for the subject. Find that in interview, (or age-regress him) and work out a means of accomplishing those objectives in a more acceptable way. For instance, if the source" is a feeling of inadequacy, (as ond might suspect) help the subject to realize and identify his competencies, and to express them through more deliberate behavior. Just a thought.

If this was my client I would use an anger script and do parts, telling him that the part that is making him hyper is in his hands so that he can see it, feel it and hear it, then get him to mentally talk to it and ask it why. Then he can negotiate a new behaviour with the part, one that will help him improve his life.
