Dear All, I really need some help I have a bew lady who has Coprophobia (fear of going to the toilet/ feces)- it does seem that it is realted to her dog getting ill some time ago and he having to be careful with its feces. She has had the fear now for several years and over time has obviously started to suffer OCD around hygine and being clean. She has also thorugh her diet strated to suffer gastric problems which need some investigation but she is in fear of going to have the tests done in hospital.... Her GP is less than supportive and she has tried CBT with a male therapist in the past which she was less than pleased with- I can not do CBT or NLP- I am pure hypnosis! I really have no idea where to start.. I was thinking confidence first, the ooking at the Coprophobia was a phobia so approach in little steps?? Help?? Thanks Cheryl

Hi Cheryl, I would certainly start with some ego strengthening work. Hartlands ego script is really good for this. Although it sounds like this is a recent phobia, it may be worth while just checking if there is an earlier memory. I normally use regression via an affect bridge but you could use a diagnostic scan for this as it is less upsetting to the client without having to illicit the bad feelings. If there is an initial sensitising event then you can work with that. If she was young when it happened, use a bit of inner child therapy. Or look up the fast phobia cure in NLP, its pretty hypnotic so you can adapt it nicely. With OCD, this can be really tricky, in vivo exposure is normally needed, however you can use mental rehearsal within hypnosis to get her to experience going to the toilet without too much upset, this is a form of systematic desensitisation. Good luck with your client Regards Chris

Hi Cheryl I had a similar client but this was because she saw her grandad soiling himself when he had cancer, and also him being sick. The young woman was terrified of being sick or having diarrohea. She was afraid to go any distance incase she soiled herself or was sick. When she came to see me she couldnt consciously say why she had her fear of vomiting or diarrohea. She believed it was something to do with being in primary school. I did a hypno analysis using IMR and found the ISE, from there I also discovered she felt guilty for not visiting grandad as often because of his illness. I did some forgiveness work with her and ego strengthening. I dont know if you ever use Thought Field therapy, but this was the final part in her release from her fear. If you really dont feel confident n working with this client Cheryl why not speak to yor supervisor, and ask if they can help? Best wishes Edie
