Hello Tricia, I want to respond to you as I am myself someone who suffers almost daily from panic and anxiety. What I have found to work so far is in learning coping mechanisms (through hypnosis) to deal with the panic as I begin to feel it. Through hypnosis, I have anchors as well as guided imagery with colors and smells that I can go to in the event of an attack and these have been helping me a great deal. <p> I would suggest to start there with her, give her an anchor, like a place on her body that she can either physically touch or imagine touching when the panic starts and also a color that she can associate as being calming and relaxing. Eventually it would be helpful to go in to more in depth sessions with her to address where the fear is coming from but she could at least have some skills to help until then. Oh and also just validate for her that what she is experiencing is real and that she is not crazy and that there are plenty of other people out there who experience this as well, that is comforting to know that you are not alone and not making it all up. I hope this helps!

Hello Tricia, Perhaps use some CBT with this client along with Hypnotherapy, possibly some tasks for her to try out such as exposure therapy (to the situation that makes her feel anxious)Also give her some relaxation techniques to use at home, self Hypnosis. Writing a journal of the positive aspects of her day, to boost her confidence. I have found using a variety of methods empowers clients, and have had a good success rate with anxiety.

I can suggest you to try hypnosis. It really worked for my uncle who suffered lot because of panic attacks. I found a good hypnotherapist from the site thoughtbecomereality.co.uk and they provided a good solution to cure the problem through hypnosis and NPL techniques. I hope this information will be more useful.

I realize this post is a bit late to help Tricia but hopefully other members might find it useful. Dianes response about anchors and colors has worked very well for a lot of my clients too. What seems to work best (for me) is to listen to their concerns and try and put myself into their situation, listening what they have told me about themselves and trying to see things from their perspective. This is a form of projection which doesnt work for everyone.

Hi Tricia, All the others have given good advice. But, heres the thing. There is absolutely no point whatsover in trying to hold an intellectual discuission with someone who suffers from panic attacks or any form of social anxiety. They dont have an intellectual problem. if they did theyd have fixed it by now. And besides they will already have heard it all before, ask them. Like I said, they dont habe an intellectual problem, they have an emotional problem. Its all inside of them but totally outside their control. I do likke what Diane says, however, thats assuming you cant fix it quickly and possibly you can. Parts therapy is excellent for such a problem or good old direct talking to the SC. Regards, Bob
