I was was working with a client about her panic attacks; mainly around driving. I managed to put her under but as soon as I said anything about being in a car or driving she had a panic attack which manifested by her getting very very dizzy. Any suggests.

I should add that I tried to do a calming screed and visualisations to help her stay calm. This did not seem to work and I believe it got worse. Im completely confused about where to go from here.

Hi Dawn. It sounds like this lady was associated - in the feeling of panic itself - rather than observing/visualising. Try suggesting she is in a private cinema, sitting in a comfortable chair etc with screen in front of her - you may need to take her right to the back of the room or even into the projection room (with window as added protection) before any images (of driving etc) come onto the screen. The rewind technique, dissassociated, then associated could work well here. Hope that helps. Nikki.

Hi Dawn Do you know when her panic around driving began? If not then I would ask what happened to trigger it and try to find out as much as possible about her anxieties over driving. (Im assuming shes a driver? If not it could be that she has a fear of others being in control? If shes driven comfortably in the past then I guess that something must have happened to create her panic. However you did say that these attacks are mainly around driving. Does this mean that other situations also trigger panic? When helping clients with fears or phobias (as with most issues) it is essential to gather as much information as possible. If there is no obvious cause then you could use regression and work with her through whatever crops up. Good luck and please keep us informed of your progress.
