Night terrors/restless sleep

Hi everyone.I have a recent client who has suffered vivid nightmares from 7yrs old(now 27)at about the time she discovered suicide notes from her mother hidden in a drawer.By the way,her mother never carried out the threats,but my clients father,to this day,is blissfully unaware of his wifes threats.My client came to me initially with what she said was work-related stress.Until this latest revelation,I treated her with the wash away stress script which has helped a bit,but obviously not completely bearing in mind the angst she has been holding.I would be very grateful for some advice re future treatment/scripts

Hi Martyn <p>It sounds as though your clients discovery of the suicide notes is behind the cause of her nightmares (not surprisintly). We have a script specifically for nightmares on Hypnotic World (under the Stress & Anxiety heading on the Script Index page). I dont know if youve read any of Milton Ericksons books but one of them contains an account of when his son suffered from nightmares after being hit by a lorry or truck. Erickson was able to reach into his sons nightmares and acknowledge that the truck was coming and he would be hit, but that he survived the experience. If your clients mother didnt carry out her intentions then perhsps you could use the same sort of reasoning during a hypnosis session whereby your client explores her nightmares. Anyway, just an idea, I hope we get some input from other Hypnotherapists.
